Alaina's blog, 1 Sept 2010

I would like to say thanks to Jo-Jo for the option of prompts.
I think that I would have gotten myself confused otherwise.

First, we have not gotten that far into “Number Theory”. Mostly, we have been covering the basics and touching on some new things- like sieves—UGH!

Second, I have chosen to respond to Prompt #1.

So, what do I think Number Theory is exactly?

I think that Number Theory is the branch of math concerned with the study of numbers in general, and integers in particular. It also includes different methods of problem solving. Many people do not realize, but we have been studying Number Theory since we were taught basic math. Studying multiples, greatest common divisors and least common divisors, factorization, prime numbers as well as perfect numbers all fall into the category of Number Theory. Each type falls into sub-categories under Number Theory, each having their own theory or formula.
:)

I hope everyone has a great year in this class. Good luck!

  1. Lol, well it's somewhat awkward to admit at this point, but I sort of originally intended for both prompts to be answered. Nonetheless, I'll talk to Brandi about it and see if we can't make prompt #1 be for week 1 and #2 for week 2. It might give people time to adjust and also to see next week's ahead of time.

Regardless of what she decides, I'll keep in mind that letting you guys choose prompts is a good idea and will pick it up in future weeks.

But yeah, as for your response, it's exactly the kind of thing I expect. It's not too long but it also conveys the point clearly enough that I see what you're getting at. Thanks a lot and I'll keep everyone updated on the prompt situation.

  2. So yeah, if you didn't see already, this is fine for week one, but Prompt #2 will be week two's question so you may want to start thinking about it. =p
