"Steganography is the art of hiding the existence of a message rather than its meaning. It is currently a very HOT topic as one subdivision of steganography is digital watermarking, a technique used to copyright and to protect digital images, music and software."
Older methods of steganography include writing in lemon juice or tracing words through a piece of paper so that they have to be colored or shaded over to be seen.
Stealthy, right?
